Speaker Bio

Jeffrey B. Mecham received his Ph.D. in polymer synthesis and characterization from Virginia Tech. After serving as the VP of Research at NanoSonic, Inc., where his work focused on biosorbable polymer sutures for military and civilian applications, Jeff joined Polymer Solutions (PSI) in 2006. At PSI, he serves as the Business Development Manager and as a project manager for medical-related materials and devices in the areas of Failure Analysis and 510K submission. He has more than 35 refereed technical publications in the area of polymer synthesis and characterization and taught the American Chemical Society Polymer Synthesis short course for several years.

PMD5: Independent Testing and Analysis of Medical Devices and Materials

The process that innovative medical device and materials solutions must navigate
to achieve FDA approval can be tortuous and difficult. Partnering with a laboratory that
can provide independent testing and analysis and that has experience with the FDA
submission process can minimize the costs and time associated with the development and submission process. This talk will share several case studies that cover a broad range of materials technologies to familiarize the listener with some of the challenges that other firms have faced as they develop new materials for the medical device and materials markets. A case study format will be used to discuss key issues and the analytical techniques that helped resolve the technical challenges of concern. In each case, the approach will be targeted to provide the listener with information that can be applied to their specific technical arena."
